Introduction to Personal Computing

Computer Basics – Identify parts of a computer; look at different types of software; create folders;

copy and delete files; and explore the basics of Word, Excel, Power Point and Access.


Word I Introduction

Basic PC skills are required. Use toolbars; create documents; manipulate text; move and copy

text; alter fonts, lines and paragraph spacing; alter alignment; reset margins and tabs; and use

other tools.


Word II Intermediate

A working knowledge of Word I is recommended. Reformat documents; add special effects;

create multiple section documents; work with tables, charts and diagrams; create newsletter style

columns; add borders, shading, header/footer, comments, page numbers and pictures; and send

documents via email.


Word III Advanced

Word I and II skills are helpful. Work with long documents and macros; edit; format tables,

charts and pictures; mail merge; workgroup management; visual basics; interactive macros; and

custom templates.


Excel I Introduction

A basic knowledge of Word toolbars is recommended. Build new spreadsheets; enter data in

cells; enter formulas; adjust column and row sizes; automatically fill a range; compute row or

column totals; insert and delete rows, columns and page breaks; change page set-up; and use

SUM, AVERAGE, MAX, MIN and count.


Excel II Intermediate

Excel I skills are required. Find and replace cell entry; apply style; use special dialogue box and

alignment options; use the IF, PMT, FV, DATE and NOW functions; plot, modify and enhance a

chart; sort and filter records; format multiple worksheets and split window into panes; and insert

pictures, diagrams, hyperlinks and comments.


Excel III Advanced

This course in database management may be taken after Excel IV. Work within a template;

audit a worksheet and link multiple worksheets; analyze date and name ranges; and import and

export data.


Excel IV Macros

This course in customizing and using macros may be taken before Excel III. Record, run

and edit personal and workbook macro; use Visual Basic Editor; conditional statements and

control loops; place a combo box and check box; assign a macro to a toolbar button; and create a

new toolbar and menu.


Access I Introduction

A basic knowledge of Word toolbars is helpful. Create databases and tables; work in

various views; sort and filter records; create and modify a query; create a tabular report;

compact and repair a database; and import spreadsheet data.


Access II Intermediate

Access I skills are required. Work with fields; display and work with multiple tables; create a sub-datasheet; design custom forms; add pivot tables and charts; and export a datasheet to Excel.


Access III Advanced  (NEW)

Access I & II skills are required. Validate field entries; create custom input mask, masterdetail

form, advanced filter, parameter query, switchboard, and Access workgroup; write event

procedure; add a cover sheet to a report; set database password; and more.


PowerPoint I

A basic knowledge of Word is recommended. Gain an understanding of PowerPoint and

create presentations using tables, clipart and templates.


PowerPoint II Intermediate

PowerPoint I skills are required. Build on previous knowledge of PowerPoint by adding

special features to your presentations.


Outlook Introduction

A basic knowledge of Word toolbars is recommended. Work with mail messages; attach

external files; move messages to folders; schedule appointments, events and meeting requests;

and work with contact and task lists.


Publisher I Introduction

A basic knowledge of Word toolbars is recommended. Develop brochures and news articles; create letterhead and flyers; and use WordArt.

Classes are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in classroom 3.
