Senior Manufacturing Engineer - MicroLumen

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent Technical Degree (Master's preferred)
  • Experience: 7-10+ years in a manufacturing engineering role (or equivalent) within a highly regulated industry (aerospace, medical device, etc.).
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo) and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Methodologies: Strong knowledge of Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and root cause analysis (RCA).
  • Systems: Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).

Essential Functions:

  • Process Improvement: Analyze and optimize manufacturing processes to reduce costs, scrap, and cycle times.
  • Production Support: Provide hands-on troubleshooting on the production floor to ensure continuity of operations.
  • New Product Introduction (NPI): Collaborate with Application Engineering teams to ensure product manufacturability (DFM). Develop manufacturing plans and create required work instructions/procedures. Ensure seamless design transfer to production.
  • Tooling & Equipment: Design, procure, and install manufacturing tools, jigs, fixtures, and automated equipment.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain SOPs, work instructions, and Manufacturing Bill of Materials (MBOMs).
  • Leadership: Mentor junior engineers and technicians and lead cross-functional project teams. Provide temporary or permanent supervision as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to travel to customer or supplier sites as needed.
  • Ability to understand and interpret specifications on drawings and translate into a workable process to meet customer design requirements.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language proficiently to ensure compliance with our ISO 13485 procedures.

Demonstrated Competencies:

  • Leading capital equipment projects/implementing
  • Develop and implement Lean /Six Sigma initiatives
  • Designing for manufacturability (DFM) troubleshooting
  • Write IQ/OQ/PQ validation protocols and conduct process validations (IQ/OQ/PQ) for new equipment and process changes and write summary reports for review and approval of all validations.
  • Work with vendors on product specifications and mechanical component selection for continuous improvement.
  • Ability to identify potential fixturing, tooling, or equipment upgrades and/or new equipment requirements, and the ability to complete cost analysis and justification for any capital request.
  • Train other personnel on new or existing manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Identify, evaluate, and purchase non-capital expenditures to support engineering activity.
  • Create and complete a complex machine or equipment design in a CAD program and generate detailed drawings for assembly or fabrication (currently, using SolidWorks).
  • Consistently maintain status tasks using project management software.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to display fine manipulation by constantly using both hands and fingers to inspect, grasp, move, or assemble very small objects.
  • Must be able to operate a computer 50% of the time or more.
  • Must be able to frequently move about inside the manufacturing environment and access machinery.
